Tunings are the backbone of L. A. Piano Services [over 30,000 tunings
in the last 25 years!] In 1981, Jim became one of the youngest craftsman
members of the Piano Technician's Guild. Since then we've had the
honor of servicing the pianos of everyone from the beginning piano
student to hundreds of the music industry's most respected names,
including Paul McCartney, Elton
John and Barbra Streisand. An average-quality tuning can be compared
to a slightly out-of-focus picture. It's not until the picture is
brought into better focus that you realize how much clarity was missing.
We take pride in being thorough and precise in every tuning we do.

For
as little as 20% of the cost of buying a new piano you could have
your piano rebuilt instead. The piano's old strings are removed, the
exterior is refinished, the soundboard is restored, the gold plate
is re-painted, the finest strings are installed, new hammers are installed
and voiced, the action is reconditioned and regulated. Your piano
is like new or better!

The actual playing mechanism of your piano is called the action. The
action turns finger movement into sound and has thousands of moving
parts that work in an ordered sequence. Your piano's action needs
adjusting or regulating from time to time for you to get the full
performance from your piano, and to avoid shortening it's lifetime.
Your proficiency is greatly enhanced by a well-regulated piano. A
complete regulation is a meticulous operation (there are over 30 adjustments
per 88 notes!) to improve action performance.

Voicing simply refers to improving the tone of your piano. Your piano
can be made to sound brighter or more mellow according to your tastes.
The voicing process typically involves needling the hammers to bring
out more body to the tone.

As many of you know, in 1985 we began blazing the "Midi-piano"
trail, installing adapters in pianos that allow you to hook up synthesizers
to your piano (we now have over 1,000 satisfied customers!). The
wonderful sound of an acoustic piano mixed with strings (or a variety
of other sounds) still proves incredibly inspiring, as well as an
invaluable tool for composers. And to this day, it still induces
euphoria in laboratory animals and encourages plant growth. The
control panel for your Midi-adapter allows you to change synth programs,
transpose and a whole bunch of other cool things right from your
piano's keyboard.

CONTROL SYSTEMS FOR YOUR PIANO
Want to get more mileage out of your tunings? You could either hermetically
seal your piano and never play it again, OR install a Humidity Control
System. People are often surprised to find that humidity fluctuations
are the number one factor that puts your piano out of tune and shortens
its life. (Ever wonder why the Santa Anas wreck your tunings?!?) These
regularly-occurring weather changes cause the soundboard to swell
from dampness, contract from dryness and cause a list of negative
effects on your piano. A Humidity Control System is installed out-of-view
and works to keep you piano's soundboard at 44% relative humidity.
It is inexpensive, extends the life of your piano and helps the tunings
last longer. And gosh darn it, your piano will love you for it.
